Leadership Edinburg Paints Bright Reminder

Leadership Edinburg muralAs passersby on Closner Boulevard in Edinburg approach the City of Edinburg’s Recycling Center, something new may catch their eyes. A new mural, highlighting the city-wide efforts to recycle, now dons the side of the recycling building. The mural is now a part of the landscape thanks to the efforts of the Edinburg Chamber’s Leadership Class XXX end-of-year project.

Submission for the mural came in from ECISD high schools via the Leadership Edinburg’s contest. The winning vision for the mural comes from Brittlee Garcia from Edinburg North High School. Bringing Garcia’s artwork to life was muralist Lupe Hernandez.

Garcia will receive a $1,000 scholarship from Leadership Edinburg Class XXX. Three other students also receive awards of $500 as runner-ups for their artwork.

The Edinburg Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Edinburg is a nine-month program encouraging class members to interact with members of the community to encourage a better Edinburg. The program helps class members understand problems and opportunities through strong leadership skills. These skills focus on politics, education and quality of life.

Edinburg Leadership Class XXXI begins in September. For more information, contact the Edinburg Chamber at 956-383-4974.
